Using our website: help for everyone
Our website should be easy for everyone to use. That includes people who cannot see well, people who use a keyboard and not a mouse, and people who use a screen reader. If anything here does not work for you, ring us on 01463 652 653. We will help you on the phone, the same as anyone else.
Talk to Donnie, our in house AI agent, or listen to him
He answers questions and helps you apply.
- Speak instead of typing. Press the microphone button beside Donnie's box. Say your answer. Your words appear in the box. Check them, then press Send. Nothing is sent until you press Send.
- Listen instead of reading. Press the speaker button. Donnie reads his replies out loud. Press it again to stop. Your device remembers your choice.
- These two buttons show only where your browser can do this. Most phones and computers can.
- Your browser turns your voice into words. We do not keep a recording.
Use a keyboard
- Press Tab to move from one thing to the next. A blue ring shows where you are.
- Donnie's answer buttons work with Enter or Space. After you pick one, you land on the next question's buttons.
- Press Escape to close a menu, the chat or Donnie's introduction. You go back to where you were.
Use a screen reader
- Donnie's new messages are read out as they arrive.
- Every button has a name. Every picture that matters has words.
- If a box in a form needs fixing, your screen reader reads out what is wrong when you land on it.
Easy on the eyes
- Text is dark on white, so it is easy to read.
- The boxes you type in have a clear grey edge.
- Links inside sentences are underlined, so you do not need to tell colours apart.
- You can zoom the page up to twice its size. Nothing gets cut off.
- If your device is set to "reduce motion", the moving parts of the website stay still.
Films
- Our films have words on screen (captions). You can turn them on or off.
- Nothing plays with sound until you press play.
English only
Donnie and our team work in English. Our documents are in English too. This means nothing gets lost in translation.
What we are still working on
- Some text does not grow when you make only the text bigger in your browser. Zooming the whole page works.
- Donnie himself moves a little (he breathes and blinks) unless your device is set to reduce motion.
